Restoring Normal Bowel Function Through Advanced Colorectal Surgery at Almana Hospital Jubail

The colorectal surgery team at Almana Hospital Jubail successfully restored hope for a 40-year-old patient through an advanced procedure that ended his prolonged struggle with complex health complications and allowed him to regain normal bowel function.

The patient had been experiencing months of lower abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and significant weight loss. Investigations revealed a tumor in the rectum and sigmoid colon causing partial obstruction, and histopathology confirmed rectal adenocarcinoma. Despite undergoing tumor resection with a temporary ileostomy in his home country, attempts to reconnect the colon failed, and his condition worsened after a bowel perforation during a treatment attempt.

Upon arrival at Almana Hospital Jubail, a thorough assessment identified a complete blockage 7 cm from the anal verge and severe narrowing of the left colon. Under the leadership of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hafeez Alwan, Consultant Gastroenterologist, and Dr. Osama Salman, Consultant General Surgeon, a precise two-stage treatment plan was developed, involving removal of the damaged section and closure of the ileostomy.

The surgery was successfully completed, with the final stage performed on May 15, 2025. After recovery, the patient was able to return to his normal life and work. This achievement reflects Almana Hospital Jubail’s commitment to specialized care, precise diagnosis, advanced surgical techniques, and expert medical teams.
