She presented to the Emergency Department with severe anemia, her hemoglobin level measuring only 4.5 g/dL. She was admitted to the ICU and received 4 units of packed red blood cells.
An ultrasound revealed multiple uterine fibroids, and a pelvic MRI confirmed the presence of fibroids in all layers of the uterus, including a large submucous fibroid.
