Ophthalmology

Ophthalmic and Dental facilities were the first two services offered in Almana hospital, over 60 years ago. The present ophthalmic department is flourishing with many eye clinics.

The comprehensive unit, is fully equipped with state of art technology, run by highly qualified and experienced consultants, nursing and theater staff.

It comprises two Sections:

1. OUT PATIENT
2. INPATIENTS

OUTPATIENT Department:

1. Seven fully equipped ophthalmic clinics
2. Two fully equipped optometrist clinics.
3. A comprehensive contact lens department.
4. A scan biometry, by ‘IOL- Master’
5. B scan biometry,
6. Fundus fluorescien angiography unit comprising state of art Topcon fundus imager and software.
7. Pentacam Corneal Topography and corneal pachymetry equipped with WAVE FRONT/CUSTOM ABLATION TECHONOLOGY
8. Visual field analysis, using the latest, Humphreys visual fields analyzer, for all kinds of comprehensive visual field testing.
9. ND:YAG laser, Argon green photo coagulator laser for medical retina.
10. Minor operation theater for outpatient surgical procedures.
11. Optical coherence Tomography[OCT]
12. Anterior segment photography
13. Ophthalmic Video library

Inpatient Department:

1. Modern air-conditioned patients rooms. A ophthalmic ward fully dedicated for eye care
2. Well-equipped treatment room for post-operative rounds.
3. Modern well equipped operating theater for elective and emergency surgeries, exclusively for ophthalmic cases.

OPHTHALMIC PROCEDURES PREFORMED:

• Cataract extraction with IOL using the latest versions of phacoemulcification machines.[Alcon Infinity, Alcon Legacy]
• Glaucoma surgeries like trabeculectomies, enhanced trabeculectomies and glaucoma valve surgery.
• Corneal transplant and triple procedures.
• Squint surgeries.
• Lid and lacrimal surgeries.
• Minor routine operation.
• Retinal and vitreo retinal surgeries.

-routine cases including diabetic vitreo retinal complications, retinal detachment scleral buckling for Retinal detachment, and emergency intra-ocular foreign body removal and repair. Macular hole, macular pucker repair, Anti VEGF therapy.

• REFRACTIVE SURGERIES

-We pioneered the refractive surgeries in the Eastern province of Saudiarabia, as early as 1993. Currently we  have the latest excimer laser machines.
-LASIK and PRK
-Phakic intraocular lens implants.
-Astigmatic corneal surgeries, intra stromal corneal ring. Cross linking for keratoconus.
-Refractive lens exchange using monofocal and multifocal intraocular lenses.

Hours of Operation:

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm
