SERVICES OFFERED IN OPTHALMIC DEPARTMENT
The services rendered by the Eye Department can be broadly categorized in three parts:

• Outpatient services.
• Inpatient and Surgical services.
• Emergency coverage.
• Referral cases from other Hospital or other Departments.
• Complete Eye test for pre – employment or annual check-up.
• Driving license test.
• Evaluation of the Eye for GOSI patients.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

In addition to the normal OPD Eye Clinics [Three fully equipped plus One Clinic for Optometrist ] where patients are seen by appointment or walk-in method, we offer the following additional services:

Ophthalmic diagnostic Tests:

• A and B scan,
• Biometry
• Visual field analysis,
• Corneal topography,
• Pachymetry
• Ultrasound
• Anterior and posterior segment photography
• Fundus fluorescein angiography ( F.F.A.).

Treatment:

• Minor operative procedure performed in our minor surgery room, Day case Unit.
• Contact lens dispensing, location optometrist clinic OPD.
• Argon Laser photocoagulation [location in the laser room 2nd floor-B side]
• Yag laser service [located in the laser room 2nd floor-B side]
• Excimer Laser therapy.

Activities Performed in OPD 

• Evaluation of visual acuity, Refraction test with or without Cycloplegia agents.
• Objective refraction using automated refractometer.
• Slit-lamp examination of different parts of the eye.
• Evaluation of eye movements and Squint.
• Intra-ocular pressure measurement.
• Color vision test.
• Fundus examination by direct/indirect ophthalmoscope and/or 78 D/90 D lenses.
• Prescription of spectacles.
• Prescription of medicines for various eye diseases.
• Dispensing of contact lenses.
• Dilatation of the pupil performed after the Ophthalmologist instruction and the use of specified medication.
• Evaluation of Dry eye.
• All Diagnostic tests if needed.
• All kind of Laser therapy if required
• Day case and minor surgery.
• Admission for inpatient in case of medical, surgical or emergency condition.
• Evaluation patient’s fitness for GA or LA in case of admission.

INPATIENT AND SURGICAL SERVICES

a. The inpatient wards provide all services related to medical and surgical intervention of the eye. We have male and female facilities.
b. Surgical services AGH, Jubail offers routine and complicated surgeries for most ophthalmology conditions.
Surgeries performed

MINOR SURGERIES

• Removal of foreign body from surface of eyeball
• Dilation of Lacrimal duct, 3 snips surgery.
• Punctum plugs implantation.
• Chalazion operation.
• Intropion and ectropion operation.
• Tarsorrphaphy.
• Epilation and Electrolysis.

MAJOR SURGERIES 

• Removal of foreign body from interior of eye magnet [not vitrectomy-posterior]
• Pterygium
• Pinguecula
• Ptosis
• Enucleation of eyeball
• Evisceration of the eyeball
• Operation of lacrimal system: Dacrycysorhinostomy (DCR), tubing, Probing and syringing, Dacryocyctectomy.
• Eye muscle surgery, Squint, Adjustable extra ocular muscle surgery
• Secondary Intraocular lens implantation or Replacement.
• Glaucoma surgery: (Trabeculectomy , Ahmed’s valve implantation , goneotomy )
• Cataract surgery (ECCE, Phaco , including paediatric with IOL or without).
• combined surgery (TRAP+ ECCE +IOL or without).
• Corneal surgery
• Orbital surgery; Excenteration, Decompression.
• All kinds of Eye Trauma and emergencies (except Retinal problems or Intraocular FB).

LASER SURGERY

• Argon Laser Therapy (Diabetic Retinopathy, retinal hole, tear, degeneration most of retinal conditions, Peripheral Iridectomy).
• Yag Laser Therapy (Posterior capsule opacity, Peripheral Iridectomy, Anterior vitreous opacity).
• Excimer LASER Therapy (PRK, LASIK, PTK).

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Our experienced specialist is on-call for all emergency eye problems. Thus we provide 24 hrs services.

Saturday - Tuesday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 09:00 pm)
Wednesday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm)
Thursday (0800 am- 1200 pm only)

Note: (On-call services 24 hours a day / 7 days a week)
