Physiotherapy

Physical Therapy is a branch of medicine directed towards physical examination and analysis of a patient’s condition. It is concerned with health promotion, prevention of physical disabilities, evaluation and rehabilitation of people disabled by pain, disease or injury and treatment through physical therapeutic measures, as opposed to invasive medical, surgical or radiological processes.

At AGH – Hofuf Physical Therapy Department:

We provide a comprehensive range of physical therapy modalities and personal training/fitness services for all ages, all in the same location. Male and female clients are treated separately according to the kingdom's culture and religious belief.

Clients are treated by highly qualified physical therapists on each visit to our department. Most of the departmental equipment used is sophisticated and modern.

Our experienced staff believes in hands-on care and old-fashioned values of privacy, dignity and attention to your needs.

Scope and Services:

The Physical Therapy Department of AGH - Hofuf provides physical therapy services to the community with the goal of maintaining maximum movement and functional ability throughout the patient’s lifespan. The provision of services includes regaining movement and function where the process of aging, injury or disease threatens them.

Our professional staff involves the patient and caregivers in the plan of treatment. We assess movement potential and formulate, together with our client, individual goals and objectives aimed at achieving maximum mobility and independence.

Equipment Used For Our Services:

• Shortwave Diathermy (SWD) - A device that uses electro-magnetic energy, which, when applied to the body can promote:
  • Functional restoration and analgesia
  • Facilitation of healing of injured tissues
• Continuous Passive Motion Machine - CPM machines are used to increase range of motion of knee, shoulder and elbow joints.
• Electrotherapy - The therapeutic use of electricity to treat pain, muscle atrophy, muscular weakness and swelling:
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) - for the treatment of pain, spasms and paresthesia
  • Interferential Therapy – A type of electrical stimulator that can relieve pain and reduce swelling by using the difference between two (separate) medium frequencies applied to the body.
  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) - The use of electricity where an actual muscle contraction is produced, i.e. FES on biceps muscles produces flexion of the elbow joint.
• Intermittent Compression Units - are devices used in reducing oedematous or swollen extremities, e.g. Plexipulse Machine.
• Therapeutic Gym – A multi-functional exercise station used in body conditioning and muscle strengthening regime. It can accommodate several persons at a time with as many different functions.
• Hydrotherapy – The external use of water in combination with mild heat and controlled water agitation to debridewounds and assist in the restoration of lost joint range of motion.
• Traction (Cervical and Lumbar) – Devices used to stretch spine segments to ease nerve impingement and relieve cervical or lumbar pain.
• Ultrasound (Therapeutic) – The therapeutic application of ultrasound waves to the body for the treatment of adhesions, pain and soft tissue injuries
• Paraffin Wax Bath Treatment – A thermal modality used for distal extremities such as hands.
• Infra Red Radiation – reduces pain and muscle spasm in superficial areas of the body.
• Vibramassage – provides a mechanical vibration applied on the body that gives relaxation effect.
• Hot Moist Pack – gives gentle moist heat to superficial regions of the body, mainly for the relaxation of pain and muscle spasm.
