Comprehensive Eye Examinations
We recommend regularly scheduled eye examinations for all individuals for prevention and early detection of vision problems. The frequency of these examinations is determined by factors such as age, diabetes, or family history of eye disease, among others. We use the most modern testing methods and equipment available. We are also committed to educating our patients about their eye health, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
A thorough examination lasts about an hour and involves taking a medical and vision history, testing for visual acuity (spatial detail) and binocular vision, measuring intraocular pressure, field of vision, and refraction (checking for glasses need), as well as checking both the exterior and interior (optic nerve, retina) of the eye with special equipment. All of the tests are painless and non-invasive.
If the doctor detects any new or altered vision problems, you will be advised of treatment options, which may include corrective lenses.
Your eyes will be dilated for the check-up, and you may be unable to perform tasks at close range for a few hours afterward. Since dilation also causes sensitivity to light, you may want to bring sunglasses with you to your exam.

Retinal Argon Laser Treatment
Argon Laser is given for many different conditions in the eyes such as vascular diseases, diabetes, retinal breaks and degenerations.
Your eye doctor will discuss this with you including the risks and benefits involved before you consent to treatment.
Argon laser surgery will not provide great improvement in vision, but it helps prevent further loss of sight. Some of the conditions treated by Argon laser include:
Diabetic Eye Care
The function of the retina is to receive light, translate it into nerve signals, and send those signals to the brain. Without a retina, there is no sight. Diabetes can damage the tiny blood vessels in the retina, causing a condition called retinopathy. There are no symptoms at first, but the damaged blood vessels can gradually leak fluid and lipids onto the macula, the part of the eye that lets us see in detail. This is referred to as macular edema. If allowed to progress untreated, this leakage can destroy the retina, leading to loss of vision.
Diabetes often stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye, which ultimately leak and damage the retina. If this condition is discovered early, laser treatment can destroy these vessels. We have the latest instruments used to detect changes in the back of the eye. If we discover advancing diabetic eye disease that can be treated Both Type I (juvenile onset) and Type II (adult onset) diabetics are at high risk of developing retinopathy, but if caught in time, the disease is treatable, and vision loss can be prevented. Signs of retinopathy can be detected during a routine eye examination. For diabetics, the eye exam will include special emphasis on tests that look specifically at retina function. Pregnant women with diabetes also may be at risk and should undergo eye exams each trimester as a precaution. Diabetic retinopathy can be treated – although not cured – with argon laser treatment to retina.
