PREGNANCY & DELIVERY

The obstetric units in Almana General Hospital, Hofuf, are staffed by highly qualified consultants and specialist supported by experienced skilled nurses. The units are equipped with modern facilities for investigations and treatment in all aspect of Women’s Health Care.

These include:

a. Ante Natal care
b. Normal and Operative Deliveries
c. Painless labor
d. Diagnosis and treatment in almost all gynecological disorders in female of different age groups
e. Screening for cancer of all types
f. Menopause assessment and treatment
g. Medical and nursing care for the newly born baby and intensive baby care for those in need.
h. Family Planning advice
i. Minimally invasive surgery as well as conventional surgery.

Routine Ante Natal Care

Consultants and highly trained specialist hold daily clinics (Mornings and Evening: 8am – 12noon and 4 pm – 10pm, Saturday to Thursday) at the outpatients Clinics where state of the art facilities are available, including:

• Bedside ultrasound machines to follow up your baby’s growth and well being
• Fetal Medicine Unit where advanced fetal monitoring is employed to detect, follow up and treat high-risk pregnancies.
• Well-established laboratory with extensive facilities for practically every investigation required.

Delivery of your baby:
The labor suite and maternity wards provide a truly delightful and happy atmosphere with all the comfort and safety expected from a high profile hospital. The medical care and nursing expertise are impressive. Painless labor (Epidural Analgesia) has been on offer for well over five years. This consists of a little prick and injection of local anesthetic at the lower part of your back.

When your baby is delivered, he/she is received by an attending pediatrician and later transferred to the nursery for assessment and nursing care. Rooming-in is allowed if you request it.

If your delivery is by elective caesarian section (C/S), then you have the choice to have it under Epidural or General Anesthesia. Following the operation, you will be transferred to a recovery Room for 12-24 hours for closer monitoring and observation.

More reassuringly is the fact that the costs for your normal delivery or operation are reasonable and affordable. The special packages have been designed to be competitive and economic.

Women's Health

One of the top priorities of the Obstetric and Gynecology Department is to ensure good health and well being for its patients. This is done by offering them guidance on the prevention of disease as well as advice on the latest methods in the screening for diseases and treatment, if required. The following are some of the facilities.

• Screening for Cervical Cancer: A simple test (Pap smear) which takes a couple of minutes is offered at all AGH Hospitals. The results are available within a few days.

•  Screening for Cancer of the Uterus; The first line test is ultrasound which is available in the outpatients Department. If this reveals suspicious findings, there are facilities to admit you as a day case for Hysteroscopy (looking into the inside of the uterus with a telescope) under General Anesthesia. A biopsy is then taken. This simple test is quickly performed.

• Screening for Ovarian cancer: An initial pelvic ultrasound is performed and if there is any suspicion, the Radiology Department has sophisticated investigations such as C.T. Scan and MRI . There is also an additional blood test which helps to diagnose ovarian cancer. This is available in AGH, Hofuf.

•  Screening for Breast cancer: This service is offered in AGH, Hofuf. It is in the form of mammogram (X-ray) and occasionally, an ultrasound is required for more accurate diagnosis.

• Treatment of Menopausal Symptoms: You will find truly sympathetic Consultants and Specialist who will screen you thoroughly and treat your specific problems.

• Family Planning: In Almana Hospital, Hofuf, we follow and offer the latest methods in contraception. This service if offered in strict privacy

•  Sexually Transmitted Diseases Thanks to our sophisticated laboratories and specially trained medical staff practically all types of sexually transmitted diseases can be screened for, diagnosed and treated confidentially

• Treatment of Heavy periods ( menorrhagia ):

New and effective methods have been introduced to treat heavy periods which fail to respond to medication.

Mirena IUCD: This is a coil , containing hormones. It usually is effective for 5 years. It is easily and quickly inserted in the Outpatients department, a painless procedure.

• Infertility Basic treatment of infertility, IUI and intrauterine insemination is available.

Minimally Invasive Surgery:

New techniques in minimally invasive surgery are employed using laparoscopy (a fine telescope inserted into the abdomen through a tiny cut about 1 cm). Many surgeries are safely performed with a short hospital stay, (normally 24 hrs). Other operation are similarly carried out through the uterus from below . This is in addition to the normal conventional surgery.
