General Laboratory

Our extensive Laboratory Service consist of main branches:

1. General Laboratory (Laboratory Medicine)
2. Microbiology

For Histopathology we send our specimens to Almana Hospital Dammam.

Clinical Pathologist manages and directs the General laboratory. Microbiologist and technicians handle the routine work in their respective areas. Dedicated laboratory and medical technologists are responsible for the analytical work and are closely supervised.

Laboratory Medicine Department has different sections, and the services available in the sections are as follows:

A. Hematology Section:

• CBC, Hemoglobin, ESR, Retics, G6PD and all other hematological diseases etc.
• Coagulation profile,
• Parasite detection in blood.
• Bone marrow examination.
• Blood Gases.
• CSF Cell Count and Differential Count.
• Hb Electrophoresis, Protein Electrophoresis (In AGH- Khobar)
• Blood Film Morphology

B. Microbiology :

        I. Routine Microbial Analysis of different body fluids

        II. Water testing

• Endotoxin (Limulus Ameboecyte Lysate Test)
• Water analysis by Millipore membrane
• Water analysis by standard plate count

        III. Serology test:

• H. Pylori (Helicobacter Pylori antibodies)
• Brucella antibodies
• Widal test
• Rota virus/Adenovirus (Latex Agglutination test)

        In addition, following surveillance is available in the department:

• Active Surveillance of MRSA
• Antibiotic surveillance - quarterly
• Special work on ESBL (Extended spectrum Betalactamase producer) with paper published.
• Prevention & control of Nosocomial infection in collaboration with infection control Department.
• Liaison with clinician on antibiotic usage.

C. Clinical Microscopy: Routine analysis of:

• Urine and Stool analysis.
• Occult Blood screening.
• Semen Analysis.
• Microscopic examination of other body fluids.
• Stone Analysis (In AGH-Khobar)
• Micro Albumin in Urine

D. Clinical Chemistry:

This is concerned with chemical analysis of different body fluids etc.

• Glucose level in Blood, Urine, CSF and other body fluids.
• Liver and Kidney Function Test (LFT).
• Lipid Profile.
• Cardiac and Pancreatic Enzymes.
• Plasma Proteins.
• Chemical examination of different body fluids: -CSF, Peritoneal, Pleural, gastric, and synovial.
• Bun, Creatinine, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Uric Acid, Iron, TIBC, C- Reactive Protein.
• 24°Urine Protein
• Serum Drug levels

E. Special Chemistry:

• Hormonal profile: - BHCG qualitative and Quantitative, (all other Hormonal test available in AGH-Khobar)
• Donor Viral Screen: - HBs Ag, HCV, HIV, HbC, (all other test available in AGH-Khobar.
• General Viral Screen: - HBs Ag, HCV, HIV, HbC (all other test available in AGH-Khobar.)
• Rubella IgG, (Rubella IgM, Toxo-IgG, IgM available in AGH-Khobar)
• Troponin I Quantitative.
• TFT.
• PSA Total

F. Serology and Immunology:

• Autoimmune and inflammatory disorders: RF, CRP
• Virlal: - (Available in AGH-Khobar)
• Bacterial: - (Available in AGH-Khobar)
• Helminthes (Available in AGH-Dammam).

G. Blood Bank:

• Blood Grouping
• Donors screening.
• Donor Blood Collection.
• Cross matching for blood transfusions.
• Preparation of Blood Components.
• Auto or all antibodies screening.
• Follow up of any blood transfusion reaction.

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm
