Scope of Care

Types of Patients Served

Opthalmology Department treat patients of all ages who have a wide range of disorders, including cataracts, Disease of the retina, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, strabismus, ptosis and amblyopia.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

In addition to the normal OPD Eye Clinics [Three fully equipped] where patients are seen by appointment or walk-in method, we offer the following additional services:

• Argon laser photocoagulation
• Yag laser service
• Fundus fluorescein angiography
• Ophthalmic diagnostic room: [A scan, Biometry, visual field analysis, corneal topography, corneal pachymetry ]
• B scan of eye [ultrasound]
• Posterior segment photography
• Minor operative procedure performed in our Opthalmology minor theatre
• Contact lens dispensing
• Evaluation of visual acuity, both aided and unaided.
• Objective refraction using automated refractometer.
• Slit-lamp examination of different parts of the eye.
• Evaluation of Squint.
• Intra-ocular pressure measurement.
• Fundus examination by direct/indirect ophthalmoscope .and/or 78 D/90 D lenses.
• Prescription of spectacles.
• Prescription of medicines for various eye diseases.
• Patients for contact lenses will be first examined by the ophthalmologist before referral to the optometrist.
• Dilatation of the pupil performed after The Ophthalmologist instruction and the use of specified medication.
• All Laser treatment will require patient informed consent.
• Fundus Fluorescein angiography performed in minor Theatre with informed consent.

INPATIENT AND SURGICAL SERVICES

        a. The inpatient wards provide all services related to medical and surgical intervention of the eye. We have male and female facilities.
        b. Surgical services of AGH-Dammam offers routine and complicated surgeries for most ophthalmology conditions.

• Removal of foreign body from surface of eyeball
• Dilation of lacrimal duct
• Chalazion operation under local anesthesia

 MAJOR SURGERIES

• Tarsorrphaphy
• Removal of foreign body from interior of eye magnet [not vitrectomy-posterior]
• Enucleation of eyeball
• Operation of lacrimal system, DCR, tubing
• Photocoagulation treatment
• Eye muscle surgery
• Pterygium
• Intraocular lens implantation
• Evisceration of the eyeball
• Glaucoma surgery [including paediatric]
• Cataract surgery [ECCE, Phaco] , including paediatric
• Corneal surgery
• Dacrycysorhinostomy
• Excenteration
• Adjustable extraocular muscle surgery
• Ahmed’s valve implantation

Types of Staff Carrying Out these Activities

We have board-certified opthalmologists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders with a support group of experienced and skilled optometrist and nurses.

The services rendered by the Eye Department can be broadly categorized in three parts:
a. Out patient services (laser room, eye diagnostic room, eye clinic, optometrist clinic, opthalmology minor theatre and fluorescein angiography room).
b. Inpatient and Surgical services

Times When Care and Service Are Provided

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Our experienced specialist is on-call for all emergency eye problems. Thus we provide 24 hours service. For regular clinic hours we are open from 0800hours – 1200 hours and 1600 hours – 2000 hours from Saturday to Thursday.

Hours of Operation:

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm
