Scope of Service

Types of Patients Served

The Department of Obstetrics serves women of childbearing age. Gynecology offers services to women of all ages with gynecological problems.

Range of Conditions/ Diagnoses Treated and Range of Activities/ Procedures Performed

• Ante Natal Care for normal and high-risk patients e.g. diabetes, hypertension and IUGR.
• Normal Deliveries
• Operative Deliveries (elective or emergency under epidural, spinal or general anaesthesia)
• Abortion or history of repeated abortions
• Ectopic pregnancy diagnosis and management with Methotrexate, laparoscopy and open surgery
• Management of High Risk Pregnancies
• Management of uncomplicated labor
• Management of multiple gestation pregnancy
• Painless Labour
• Postnatal Care
• Screening for Cancer of All Types (cervical, uterus, ovarian, breast)
• Medical & nursing care for the newly born baby and intensive baby care for those in need
• Family Planning advice
• Treatment of Menopausal Symptoms
• Sexual Failures and Difficulties
• Sexually Transmitted Diseases
• Treatment of Heavy Periods (Menorrhagia)

Types of Staff Carrying Out these Activities

The department consists of OB-Gyne doctors headed by a consultant with specialists and residents. These doctors are supported by OB-Gyne clinic nurses for their OPD appointments. For the inpatient setting, services are extended in two units that focused on OB-Gyne cases: Labour & Delivery Unit and OB-Gyne Ward. Both areas comprise of Unit Charge Nurses with trained staff nurses, practical nurses and ward aides.

Sites & Time of Care and Services are Provided

OB-Gyne provides 24 hours coverage. Services are available in inpatient and outpatient basis. Both Labour & Delivery Unit and OB-Gyne ward are located in Second Floor adjacent to each other, which are open 24 hours/ 7 days a week. Labour & Delivery offers services for normal & operative deliveries with three (3) Delivery Rooms, one (1) OB Operating Room and four (4) first stage patient rooms inside the Unit. OB-Gyne ward covers responsibility for all patients with gynecological problems, pre & post delivery cases, surgical cases and other patients receiving OB-Gyne treatments.

For the outpatient clinic times: Saturday to Thursday from 0800 hours – 1200 hours and 1600 hours – 2000 hours. The department is supported by Ultrasound, Laboratory and all emergency services required.

A resident OB-Gyne is on on-call coverage 24 hours/ 7 days a week for any emergencies related to their area of specialty.

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm
