SCOPE OF CARE

Types of Patients Served

Neurosurgery is an area of surgery that deals with problems with the neurological system including the brain and spinal cord.

Many of the complications requiring neurosurgical intervention and management are work related and road traffic accidents. Our neurosurgeons are part of the team dealing with polytrauma. Their Services cover both Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgery.

Range of Conditions and Diagnoses Treated and Range of Treatments or Activities Performed

• Head and spine injury
• Evacuation all kinds of intracranial hematoma (extradural, subdural and intracerebral hematoma)
• Skull bone lesion management with cranioplasty
• Brain and spine cord tumors
• Brain abscesses
• Lumbar disc disease and spondylolisthesis (fixation)
• Cervical and dorsal disc disease
• Repair of encephalomeningocel and myelomeningocel and other anomalies
• Hydrocephalus management (all kinds of VP shunt)
• Peripheral nerve entrapments, injuries and traumas
• Rhinoria (CSF Fistulas) management

The Neurosurgery Department is supported by and comprised of experienced skilled nurses and highly qualified neurosurgeons who manage and care for all neurosurgery patients in the following areas:

• Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
• Surgical High Dependency Unit
• Male and Female Surgical Wards
• Neuro-Radiological services (MRI, MRA, CT-Scan, Skull and Spine Nuclear Scanning, Conventional Cerebral Angiography, LP Conventional Myelography )
• Laboratory
• Intensive Physical Therapy
• Respiratory Therapy
• Pain Management Team

Hours of Operation:

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm

Note: (On-call services 24 hours a day / 7 days a week)
