Scope of Service

Types of Patients Served

The Surgical Department deals with all surgical related diseases whether elective via Outpatient basis; emergency cases or referred from other hospital services. Our practice deals with patients from adolescence and upwards and it covers a wide range of Traditional open or laparoscopic surgeries.

Range of Conditions and Diagnoses Treated

A. Management of polytrauma cases.
B. We offer surgical services including but not limited to:

• Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery such as Bariatric Surgery for weight loss
• Hernia Repair        
• Colon Resection
• Splenectomy
• Cholecystectomy

C. Additional to these, we deal with diseases related to:

• The Gastrointestinal Tract,
• Pancreas as well as
• Endocrine Surgery
• Breast diseases & tumors
• Peripheral vascular surgery
• Skin & subcutaneous surgical pathology

Range of Treatments or Activities Performed

• Management of wide field of surgical diseases in OPD.
• Management and care of surgical patients in Inpatient and ICU Departments.
• Covering the daily calls to manage admitted patients and surgical cases in the Emergency Room.
• Operations performed fall into 2 categories:
• Elective
• Emergency

Our surgeries are open or laparoscopic. Operations are performed under General anesthesia and local anesthesia in the Operating Room in fixed operation schedules for each surgeon for the elective list.

The following are some of the performed surgeries:

• All types of skin and subcutaneous lesions
• Excision biopsies of lymph nodes in any region of the body
• Surgery of thyroid and parathyroid glands
• Surgery of the breast
• Surgery of abdominal and groin hernias including incisional and recurrent hernias and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair
• Surgery of the stomach and anti-obesity gastric banding
• Surgery of the small and large intestines
• Hemorrhoidectomies – classic & stapler
• Gallbladder surgeries – laparoscopic and open
• Surgery of the pancreas
• Surgery of the spleen
• Surgery of the adrenal glands
• Surgery of the varicose veins of lower limbs
• Management of burn cases including skin grafting
• Appendectomy – laparoscopic and open
• Surgery of the lower esophagus – (Achalasia, reflux esophageal tumor)

Types of Staff Carrying Out these Activities

Surgical Department is staffed with experienced and skilled consultants and specialist surgeons with support from skilled nurses in OPD, ER, male and female surgical wards, theater and Surgical ICU.

Both Nurses and Surgeons continuously update their skills and knowledge through continuing education. For the Surgical Doctors they are attending CMEs (Continuous Medical Education), Conferences, Seminars & Workshop, Ward and Departmental meetings (grand rounds once weekly, bimonthly morbidity & mortality meetings, bimonthly journal club meetings), Surgical- Radiological meetings and Hospital Wide CMEs.

The surgeons also involved themselves in Quality Improvement activities and other delegated administrative work line, Hospital Wide Morbidity & Mortality Committee, Infection Control Committee, Theater Committee and Blood Transfusion Committee.

Sites where Care and Service are Provided

• Accident and Emergency Department, which we cover through the daily call.
• Operating Room / Theatre

       
 Performing the operations under General anaesthesia and local anaesthesia.

• Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), where all critical cases are admitted from ER, Operating Room or require in-house transfer.
• Inpatient Wards
• OPD Surgical Clinic

Hours of Operation:

Saturday - Thursday (08:00 am - 12:00 pm & 04:00 pm - 08:00 pm

Note: (On-call services 24 hours a day / 7 days a week)
